Winter/Spring 2027 Programs Intern (PAID)

Title: Programs Intern (Paid), Winter/Spring 2027, TechCongress
    Remote or In-person: Hybrid
    Type: Internship

Do you want an in-depth experience at the heart of tech policymaking in Congress and Washington, D.C.? TechCongress seeks a self-motivated graduate/undergraduate student or a candidate with similar experience for a full-time internship during the winter/spring 2027 semester. You should have an interest in learning about and improving Congress or technology policy.

TechCongress is building 21st-century government with technology talent through our Congressional Innovation Fellowship. We are a nonprofit with a mission to bridge the divide between Congress and the technology sector by placing technologists to work with Members of Congress and Congressional Committees in order to build capacity in Congress, train cross-sector leaders— who can understand the challenges of government and the technology community— and keep Congress up-to-date about the latest challenges and opportunities in technology.

We are looking for a self-starting intern!

    About the Intern

TechCongress is looking for a Programs Intern to work with staff and fellows. You will support TechCongress's Congressional Innovation Fellowship and contribute to our programs.

This internship is a hybrid position, with the intern working at least two days a week in our Washington, D.C. office. The ideal intern will be able to work full-time (40 hours/week). You must be based in the D.C. metropolitan area (DC, MD, VA) for the duration of this internship.

This is a paid position ($20/hour).

Through this internship, you will get experience:

    • Supporting the administration of a congressional fellowship, including our 3-week orientation for new fellows in January
    • Helping build out and execute our events and engagement strategy (including pitching ideas, planning logistics, and conducting outreach)
    • Attending congressional hearings and events
    • Tracking fellow accomplishments and activities on the Hill
    • Supporting the development of TechCongress’s data infrastructure
    • Researching new program opportunities
At TechCongress, we pride ourselves on investing in our staff and interns. Interns will have ample opportunity for professional development, such as getting access to networking events, learning how a nonprofit is run, and understanding the tech policy space in D.C. The winter semester is a particularly exciting time, as the intern will help implement and sit in on our 3-week training for new fellows. During this time, the intern, along with the fellows, will learn about how Congress and the policymaking process works, as well as how to be a staffer in Congress. This includes workshops such as: how to write a memo, how to write an oversight letter, and how to plan a hearing. We also encourage our interns to lead a project throughout the semester to cultivate their leadership skills.

We want to help you learn as much as you can during your time with us and set you up for your next opportunity. For more information about the intern experience, you can check out this blog post written by our former intern.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Enrolled in, or having recently completed, a secondary degree program (undergraduate, graduate, or taking a gap year)
    • A self-starter who can take on projects with minimal supervision
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Strong organizational skills, and keen attention to detail
    • Available to work 20-40 hours a week.
